Summary
Introduction. Personal hygiene is an inseparable element of a healthy lifestyle and people´s desire to maintain their own image and health.
Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the hygienic and skin care behaviour of modern young men.
Materials & method. The study embraced 264 people, including 99 Polish students, 104 French students and 61 others who had personal relations with students of cosmetology. The research carried out was based on the diagnostic survey method using a proprietary questionnaire. The results obtained were subjected to statistical analysis.
Results. Representatives of all the groups participating in the study were in favour of maintaining facial hair. Most respondents bathed every day and removed hair from various parts of the body, mostly the armpits and intimate areas. The most commonly used facial cosmetics were liquid soap and for body care: bath gel, colognes and deodorants.
Conclusion. In their everyday behaviour, young men usually used basic treatments and cosmetics. There were national preferences regarding hygiene and body care. The modern Russian students depilated the entire body and the others showed a greater liking for the use of a wide range of skin care products. Women studying cosmetology had a considerable influence on the hygiene and skin care of those males with whom they had personal relations.
