HYGEIA GALLERY

The quarterly Problemy Higieny i Epidemiologii is an organ of the Polish Society of Hygiene which, beside strictly scientific papers, presents also current events in the Society’s life.

We have initiated a gallery which on the 4th page of the cover gives a presentation of Hygeia in sculpture, painting and other works of art over centuries.

Hygeia, the Greek goddess of health, a symbol of medical prophylaxis based on hygienic life style according to Nature, is depicted as a beautiful woman, representing Nature and fertility, who feeds a snake – the symbol of reviving life.
